Farewell to Manmohan Singh: Architect of India's Economic Transformation Passes Away at 92

India mourns the loss of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. Singh, a distinguished economist and statesman, was instrumental in steering India toward economic liberalization and global integration.

Singh's health deteriorated due to a sudden loss of consciousness at his New Delhi residence. He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where, despite immediate resuscitative efforts, he was declared dead at 9:51 p.m.

Born in 1932, Singh's academic prowess led him to esteemed institutions like Cambridge and Oxford. As Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, he implemented groundbreaking reforms that dismantled the "Licence Raj," propelling India toward a market-driven economy.

In 2004, Singh became India's first Sikh Prime Minister, serving two consecutive terms until 2014. His tenure was marked by significant achievements, including the historic civil nuclear agreement with the United States in 2008, enhancing India's global standing.

Despite facing challenges such as corruption scandals and economic slowdowns during his second term, Singh's legacy as a visionary leader remains intact. His contributions to India's economic policies and international relations have left an indelible mark on the nation's history.

Singh is survived by his wife and three daughters. As the nation bids farewell, leaders and citizens alike reflect on his profound impact on India's journey toward economic prosperity and modernization.
